The Creative Monster Guide to End of School (Week 8)

Hey there, Creative Monsters! It’s your favorite blue pal, Scribble, here, and can you believe it’s almost the end of the school year? Wowza! Time really flies when you’re having monstrous amounts of fun and learning, doesn't it? As we get ready for summer adventures, let’s create something super special to remember all the amazing moments and friendships from this past school year. We're going to build our very own "Fig Memory Keeper"! It’s a super fun way to give a high-five to all your awesome memories before you zoom off into summer!

Materials Needed

To create your very own Fig Memory Keeper, you'll need to gather your art supplies from your creative lair:

  • A clean, empty jar or small box: This will be the body of your Fig! A plastic jar is great for little hands, or an empty tissue box works wonderfully too.
  • Construction paper: A rainbow of colors for decorating your Fig.
  • Googly eyes: The bigger and wackier, the better!
  • Glue stick or craft glue: To stick all your Fig parts together.
  • Child-safe scissors: For cutting out fun shapes.
  • Markers, crayons, or colored pencils: For drawing details and writing your memories.
  • Optional Fig Accessories: Pipe cleaners (for antennae or arms!), pom-poms (for noses or spots!), yarn (for fuzzy hair!), glitter (for a sparkly Fig!), or even fabric scraps.
  • Small slips of paper: Lots of these! You can cut these from printer paper or colorful construction paper.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Ready to bring your Memory Fig to life? Let's get scribbling!

  1. Fig Body Base: First, let’s get your jar or box ready! If you want your Fig to be super colorful, cut a piece of construction paper to fit around your jar or box. Glue it on like a monster skin! If you're using a box, you might want to cover the whole thing. This is your Fig's canvas!
  2. Give Your Fig a Face: This is where the fun begins! Grab your googly eyes and glue them onto your Fig body. Two? Three? Ten? The more eyes, the more memories it can watch over! Use markers or cut out paper shapes to create a goofy mouth, sharp teeth, a silly nose, or friendly cheeks.
  3. Add Fig-ific Details: Now, let your imagination go wild! Do your Fig need fuzzy hair? Glue on some yarn! Does it need horns or antennae? Bend some pipe cleaners and glue them on top. What about spots, stripes, or scales? Cut out shapes from different colored paper and glue them all over your Fig. You can even add pom-poms for extra texture or sprinkle on some glitter for a dazzling memory keeper.
  4. Prepare Your Memory Slips: Take your small slips of paper. You'll need one for each memory!
  5. Recall & Write Your Memories: Now, for the most special part! Think back through your school year. What were your favorite moments?
    • Did you have a super fun field trip?
    • Did you make a new friend?
    • Was there a class project that made you super proud?
    • Did you learn something amazing that blew your mind?
    • Was there a funny joke or silly moment that made everyone laugh?
    • Did you master a new skill? Write down each special memory on a separate slip of paper. You can draw a little picture too if you like!
  6. Fold Them Up: Once you’ve written down a memory, fold the paper slip into a small square or roll it up like a tiny scroll. This keeps your memories safe and secret inside your Fig!
  7. Feed Your Memory Fig! One by one, drop your folded memories into your decorated jar or box. Listen closely – your Fig is happily gobbling them up!
  8. Find a Special Spot: Place your finished Fig Memory Keeper somewhere special in your room. You can peek at your memories anytime you want to remember your awesome school year. It’s like a time capsule of happiness!

Scribble hopes you had a monster-ific time creating your memory keeper. Keep those creative juices flowing, and have a super summer, little monsters! You totally earned it!
