End of School: Assemble a Summer Fun Jar
Hey there, Creative Monsters! It's me, Fig, your favorite blue monster artist! Can you believe it's Week 10 already? That means the end of school is zooming right around the corner! Woohoo! Are you excited for sunny days, adventures, and lots of creative playtime? I know I am!
To help us get super duper ready for all the summer fun ahead, I have an awesome project for you today: a "Summer Fun Jar!" This isn't just any jar; it's a magical container filled with all your brightest ideas for summer adventures. When you're ever wondering what to do, just reach in and pull out a brilliant idea from your very own jar! Let's get crafting!
Materials Needed
- An empty, clean jar (a glass jam jar, a plastic peanut butter jar, or any clean container with a lid works perfectly!)
- Construction paper or colorful paper
- Child-safe scissors
- Glue stick or school glue
- Markers, crayons, or colored pencils
- Stickers, glitter, craft foam shapes, yarn, or ribbon (optional, for extra sparkly decoration!)
- Small slips of paper or index cards (about 2x3 inches is great)
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Get Your Jar Squeaky Clean! First things first, make sure your jar is super clean and completely dry. You don't want any old jam or peanut butter sneaking into your summer fun ideas! If it's a glass jar, ask a grown-up to help you wash it out safely.
Step 2: Decorate Your Magical Jar! Now for the fun part – making your jar look amazing!
- Wrap it Up: You can cut a piece of colorful construction paper to fit around the middle of your jar and glue it on. This makes a perfect canvas for drawing!
- Draw & Doodle: Use your markers, crayons, or colored pencils to draw all sorts of summery things on your paper-wrapped jar. Think suns, flowers, ice cream cones, waves, or even little monsters having fun!
- Sparkle & Shine: If you have stickers, glitter, or foam shapes, now's the time to stick them all over your jar! You can even tie a pretty ribbon or yarn around the top for extra pizzazz. Make it totally YOU!
- Lid Love: Don't forget the lid! You can glue a circle of paper on top to decorate, or tie a piece of ribbon around it.
Step 3: Dream Up Summer Adventures! This is where the magic really happens! Grab those small slips of paper.
- Write or Draw Ideas: On each slip of paper, write down or draw one fun thing you want to do this summer.
- Examples: "Go to the park," "Build a sandcastle," "Have a picnic," "Read a new book," "Draw a picture," "Ride my bike," "Play with Fig!" (Okay, maybe just dreaming about playing with Fig counts!)
- Get Creative: Think about all the things that make you happy and excited for summer. No idea is too silly or too small!
Step 4: Fill Your Fun Jar! Once you have lots of amazing summer ideas, fold up each slip of paper into a small square or rectangle. Now, gently drop them into your beautifully decorated Summer Fun Jar.
Step 5: Summer Fun, Here We Come! Ta-da! Your Summer Fun Jar is complete! Keep it in a special spot. Whenever you're wondering what to do during your summer break, or if you hear a grown-up say, "I'm bored!" (Hehe, maybe not them!), just reach into your jar and pull out an idea! It's like having a little bit of summer magic whenever you need it.
Have the most amazing summer, my little Creative Monsters! Fig out! (But I'll be back with more fun next week!)
